The Foundation for the Conservation of the Maltese Honey Bee, in collaboration with HSBC Malta Foundation, launched “BeeCreative: Maltese Honey Bee artVenture“. This unique competition aimed to foster creativity and environmental awareness among Malta’s youngest citizens. The initiative, centered around the Maltese Honey Bee, the island’s proposed National Insect, invited students from Years 4 to 6 (ages 8-11) to explore its world through drawings, poems, or paintings. Participants expressed their creativity while highlighting the significance of the Maltese Honey Bee in beekeeping, the environment, and as a part of natural heritage. By combining educational and artistic elements, this initiative sought to cultivate a deep appreciation for this special pollinator.
The top 15 entries each receive a Hand-Knitted Maltese Honey Bee as a token of appreciation. We particularly valued submissions that incorporated Maltese elements into their artwork. Additionally, to recognise the outstanding participation from Paola, St. Joseph (Sliema), and Żurrieq Primary Schools, several A3 Posters promoting the initiative to designate the Maltese Honey Bee as Malta’s National Insect by the Foundation were distributed to these schools.
Here, we are putting a spotlight on the winners by showcasing them presenting their artwork or displaying the prizes they received. These talented young artists have put incredible effort and creativity into their submissions, and we are thrilled to celebrate their achievements. Each winner has captured the essence of the Maltese Honey Bee – we honour their dedication and highlight the significance of their contributions to this meaningful initiative.
